Self Pity: Sitting on the Pity Pot
At times I am sure almost everyone has sat on the pity pot saying woe is me why is my life so bad? or words to those effects. It doesnt take a lot to look around and see people who spend their whole lives sitting on the pity pot feeling sorry for themselves. Instead of trying to help themselves they dwell on every negative thing they can think of, never looking for solutions to their problems. | |
There are other people who have the most amazing tragedies happen to them and they use a positive attitude to move forward, finding the positive out of the most desperate situations. For most people this approach is not one that comes naturally but is a learned response where they learn to look at what they do have, instead of what they think they are missing in life.
I always remember hearing a mother talk after her child had been murdered. She said she had given four days to the murderers where she had cried etc but she was dammed if they would take any more days of her life. Instead she turned her grief into a positive experience where she was able to help other people.

| Many people who are in recovery from eating disorders reflect upon their days in the disease and say that they too were sat on the pity pot. But it was when they chose to get off the pity pot and start looking for solutions to the problems rather than living in the problems that their recovery began. It takes tremendous courage to reach out for support when you are facing major issues but it really is the best thing you can do. |
Learn to have a positive attitude and find the good in everything that happens. No matter how bad there is always something positive you can find.
If you would like support to help you change your attitude I would be delighted to work with you via online counselling.
