Counsellor Alison Jenkins - Changing Lives Online Counselling Service
I would like to share a bit about myself to allow you to make a decision about whether I am the right person to support you on your journey.  Trust is a major part of the counselling process and I believe it is important that you know who I am.

At 40 years young, I have a wealth of experience both professionally and personally.  I am  married with four children (2 boys and 2 girls) aged 16 to 6.  I live in England and have spent 6 years living in the USA.

My professional career began at the age of 18, when I trained as a Registered General Nurse at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, England.  During my training I realised that I loved the counselling side of nursing.  So my career took me into nursing jobs where I could utilise these skills.  I went on to train as a midwife and then became a Practice Nurse, working alongside General Practitioners.  Here I learnt to counsel clients with all sorts of issues.  I just never knew what problems the next person would bring.  Life was exposed to me at all different levels, which allowed me to have a very rapid learning curve.

My family is very important to me.  I wanted to be able to raise my children and be there for them after school and during the holidays.  But I also didn’t want to give up all the professional training I had worked so hard for.  Since 1985 there have only been 2 years when I have not been studying for something, so you can see there is an awful lot of knowledge accrued! I decided that I would work from home and create a career for myself.  I have been working as a medical freelance writer, while studying to be a Cybercounsellor with Toronto University, Canada.  I knew that there were lots of skills to learn when changing from face to face counselling to online counselling, and felt that it was only professional to receive proper training in this area from the pioneers of online counselling.

And that brought me to the creation of Changing Lives Online Counselling Service.
